Gallium nitride (GaN) power device adoption is growing dramatically, led by Chinese consumer electronics vendors, and the market for power GaN devices is expected to reach $2 billion by 2027, up from $126 million in 2021. Currently, the consumer electronics sector is the main driver of gallium nitride adoption, with the agency forecasting that demand for power GaN in the consumer electronics market will grow from $79.6 million in 2021 to $964.7 million in 2027, a compound annual growth rate of 52 percent.
GaN devices have high stability, good heat resistance, electrical conductivity and heat dissipation. Compared with silicon components, GaN devices have higher electron density and mobility. GaN devices are primarily used in the consumer electronics market for fast charging as well as communications and broadband applications.
Industry insiders said that while the consumer electronics market remains weak, the outlook for GaN devices remains bright. For GaN market, Chinese manufacturers have laid out in substrate, epitaxial, design and contract manufacturing areas. The two most important manufacturers in China’s GaN ecosystem are Innoseco and Xiamen SAN ‘an IC.
